Materials & Care
Mamagreen is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high quality outdoor furniture.W e use only the best weather-resistant materials and ensure trouble free use,ev en in the harshest conditions. Production processes and materials are selected on the following criteria: weather resistance, easy maintenance, care for the environment and prime quality.Everything that lives outdoors needs to be cleaned once in a while.Except for regular cleaning Mamagreen products require no maintenance whatsoever. Our Materials are:
With its high oil content and close grains, teakwood is the ideal wood to use outdoors. Mamagreen uses the highest quality available, kiln dried, minimizing any potential damage in an extremely cold, hot, dry or humid environment. If you don’t like color variations, small holes and knots in your furniture then you will prefer plantation teak. We only use the highest grade A quality, kilndried and finesanded for a perfect finish. All items look more or less the same because the slats are selected on color and look.
Recycled wood is recuperated from old shacks and buildings and has a truly unique character. Each piece has specific variations and no 2 items look the same. There are color differences, and knots and small cracks are left where nails or bolts were used. Although almost all nails are taken out before processing the wood, blackening may occur around the trail of the nail or from small remainders of metal parts hidden inside the wood. Every piece of furniture made from reclaimed teakwood has its own character and looks different because of color differences, holes etc. A new piece of furniture sometimes has dark or orange stripes, these markings are perfectly normal and will disappear within a few days by simply exposing the furniture to sunlight. After unpacking your new teak furniture you might want to spray it with a garden hose to remove the wood dust.
Cracks and even small tears are completely normal, even for the highest quality teakwood, and certainly for recycled teak. Wood lives and moves, changes occur constantly and sooner or later its character shows, it is own to teakwood. This has nothing to do with quality nor longevity, it is perfectly normal, and it does NOT influence the stability or function or serviceability in any way, therefore it cannot be part of any warranty claim. Cracks may appear due to changes in temperature and humidity and the consequent change in moisture content of the wood, sometimes a crack appears and 1 day later it can be gone again, or the other way around. This process is impossible to stop, and has nothing to do with quality problems. Again, this process does not influence use or longevity, your teak furniture can be included in your will, because it will survive you.
Teak is completely insensitive to woodworms. Only very young white teakwood (which we definitely not use) might be suitable for a woodworm. Teakwood is way to hard for a worm to live in and chew through. Besides, all containers with wood, including teak for export, are subject to mandatory fumigation. Fumigation kills all living creatures, eggs etc and its purpose is to avoid shipping diseases and insects that are not native to avoid problems like this and worse.
However, there might be local insects in your garden that drill holes in teak such as the boktor, the wood beatle (the full grown woodworm), and some species of bees may scrape off the gray patine of your nicely weathered teak furniture. There are products available for treatment in your local specialized shop.
Left to age naturally, your teak furniture will gradually change to a beautiful soft, silver-grey. If you want your teak to develop this lovely gray patina this is all the care your furniture needs. Our quality teak furniture does not require any special maintenance or protection apart from occasional cleaning. This can be done with a hard brush, soap and water or a teak cleaner product.
It is advisable to treat the tabletop with an invisible teakshield against foodstains, twice a year, which will help to maintain the silver-gray patina. If one wishes to keep the honey brown color, there is a teak protector available, however, this product does not alter the longevity in any way, only the appearance, and it needs to be regularly re-applied, so it will be adding a lot to the maintenance.
Make sure the products you use are water based and not oil based. Our high quality teak already has a very high oil content, and we advise against adding more oil. Even after being years outside and becoming completely whitish gray, you can bring back the natural color with a product called teak brightener. It eats the thin gray layer so the natural brown color shows again. The choice is yours on how you want your teak furniture to look. Buy your products from a specialized teak retailer whom can inform and ensure you it is suited for its intended use. STAINLESS STEEL
This strong and durable ferrous alloy is highly resistant to staining and corrosion. The chrome layer on the outer body of the steel is impervious to air and water, and the underlying steel remains protected from all bar major intrusions. The chromium layer will quickly reform if the metal suffers minor scratching.
Stainless steel 304 is the most used alloy and the type Mamagreen uses in most furniture pieces. Some of our collections are also available in stainless steel 316, which has a higher chromium content and is very resistant to staining. For some collections we offer an optional EP (electro polished) finish, reducing corrosion risk to almost zero, and is highly advised in maritime environments. Care
Stainless steel needs regular maintenance in order to keep it clean and shiny. The use of a scotchbrite pad, stainless steel cleaner and polisher is advised, which cleans and leaves a fine protective layer on the surface which helps to prevent the build up of contaminants. Avoid the use of scrubbers like steel-wool, which may contain overly abrasive metal parts. Never use chlorine based products.
Exposure to salty air may cause minor superficial corrosion, called tea staining, which requires cleaning. This is normal, after all, ALL stainless steel exists out of minimum 60% steel. Do not lock up your stainless steel furniture in an non-ventilated shack to avoid staining. Care should occur more often in maritime areas, about two times per year. WICKER
This woven artificial fiber comes in natural colors and in different styles, it is tear resistant, UV resistant as well as color fast. The material is withstanding extremes of hot and cold, wet and dry, with no deterioration whatsoever. Its imperviousness to water ensures that the wicker material maintains its strength and structure. Care
Wash with warm soapy water and lightly brush between the weaving lines if needed, then rinse with clean water. Make sure not to use a brush with harsh bristles, particularly those of metal. ALUMINIUM
Powder coated aluminium is ideal for outdoor use, it is highly weather resistant. The powder coat finish ensures a scratch proof surface, protection to corrosion and UV-resistance.
Maintenance is easy with soapy water. Don’ t use metal scrubbers, that could damage the surface. Cleaning is recommended 2-3 times per year. GLASS
Acid etched glass has a translucent, and satin-like appearance which obscures view while maintaining a high level of light transmittance. The frosted effect will not degrade nor wear, peel or discolor. Thanks to its uniformly smooth surface, marks such as fingerprints can be easily removed, unlike traditional and sandblasted glass. Care
To clean Acid edged glass, wipe it down with a damp cloth and non-abrasive commercial cleaner. OUTDOOR LEATHER
With its unique combination of strength, beauty and suppleness, the artificial leather Stamskin® offers an outstanding seating comfort and longevity. Being weather resistant and colorfast it defies sun and rain in many tough environments. Its tear resistance, waterproofing and extreme longevity make it appropriate for such places as hotel lounges and crowded swimming pools. Care
Brush outdoor leather down with warm, soapy water and then rinse with clear water. Do not use harsh cleaning agents and do not scour it with harsh brushes, be gentle. CUSHIONS
The MAMAGREEN cushion pleasures the eye yet also withstands the heat of a searing sun, the pouring rain or the cold of a deep winter’s day… and keeps doing it. A Mamagreen cushion maintains its shape over its long life.
MAMAGREEN covers the standard cushions with fabrics especially developed to withstand outdoors exposure. The genuine YKK zipper along the base slides and holds fast at all times as it zips along next to the special bottom strip, which has been inserted to ensure that after soaking rains comes rapid drying. Leasuretex fabric is very closely interwoven and is especially developed to withstand all weather conditions.
For easy cleaning all covers can be removed. It is advised to clean the covers with soapy water. Avoid cleaning in warm water, washing machines or dry cleaning, and the use of bleaching products. We recommend to store your cushions and pillows during winter in a well ventilated space. Air cushions on a yearly base. SLING & MESH UPHOLSTERY
Sling offers comfort, is tear strong, and does not deform or create pockets. The fabric stays cool in full sunshine and it dries very quickly because of its openwork structure. It is mold resistant and robust. Mesh is a generic term for a quick drying upholstery made from a strong polyester or hemp non-stretch yarn, coated with vinyl. An item made with these fabrics offers an incomparable comfort, keeps its shape and color and is mold and UV resistant. For our mesh furniture we only use the highest quality fabric.
Lightly brush it down with warm soapy water then rinse it off. Do not use harsh cleaning substances. PROTECTIVE COVERS
MAMAGREEN offers for all lounge furniture high performance protective covers. The covers are highly moisture resistant, excellent abrasion resistant, dimensionally stable, lightweight and colorfast. Do not cover teakwood furniture, Teakwood needs to be able to ‘breath’. Use the covers for our furniture made of other materials, it will prolong the life of your furniture and makes cleaning easier and faster. Care
MAMAGREEN advises to only use maintenance and care products from specialized dealers. Always consult with your MAMAGREEN reseller, whether the selected product is suitable and how treatment has to be applied. Use environmental friendly products only. LEAD TIME
